New home and new projects.

Yep, we did it! We bought a house. Funny how it all happened....when we moved to Yukon, we decided to rent for a year so that we could get to know the area to buy a home. Some days, while Jaden was napping, I would get on the computer and look at homes that were for sale just for fun. I would find a house I would really like and show Jason, which got us both eager to buy. One day we saw a beautiful home that we wanted, bad! Jason went to the bank to get pre-approved and called the owners of the home for sale, but a cash offer was already made. Bummer. This only made us more eager to find a home. We spent one weekend morning setting up appointments to look at homes, but each home had one room that needed major updating, along with small projects through the house. We went to our next appointment and the house was all updated inside, had a beautiful backyard, great price. We loved it. The owner said he put it up the day before and already had an offer he had to respond to that night. We decided to give our offer, he took it, and that Monday we were at his realtors office signing a contract to close in 6 weeks. Funny how things work out, we thought we would never find a home as beautiful as the home I mentioned above, and yet we found one we love even more. It is perfect for our family.
Jason gave our renter a 30 day notice and was even nice enough to find a new renter that was going to be paying $200 more a month than we were.
So here we are, in our new house!

We have a few things we want to do to make it our own home, and our first project was the painting of 2 rooms and removing some wall papper. Nothing, right?! Wrong.  I started with the bathroom which had wall paper on all the walls. The first owners of this house are the ones who put the wall paper up (in the bathroom and entryway) They did it the worse possible way you can put wall paper up, right on the fresh drywall. Sadly you can't find that out until you start. I bought all the materials suggested to buy, which was a chemical I sprayed on the wall to take it down. Once I started getting the paper off it was tearing the wall apart and taking the drywall with it.

We were told to talk to a manager at Lowe's that is a retired firefighter from Yukon, and has worked a lot with walls. He saved us! He gave us some great advice that made the project so much easier.
He recommended us getting a weed sprayer, filling it with warm water and fabric softener. We soaked the walls with the softener and the wall paper just came right off, without taking the dry wall. It was so nice! Also made us mad we put all the time into the chemical. Jason had to texture the walls, and then we were ready to paint!

It is finally finished, and I love the results.

It took a lot longer, and cost a lot more than we were both planning...so we have decided the other walls will have to wait a month or so, because we are pooped :) So for now, I am just going to enjoy my lovely bathroom.

  1. That's so great you guys found this place! I'm excited for the day we get to come see it in person. I can't believe that wallpaper, ugh! But it looks like you guys did a great job and learned some nice tricks along the way. :)
